Don’t Use Shed Plans Without Knowing These 7 Tips!
What do you really need to ask before buying shed plans:
7 Vital Questions:
For someone who has never built a shed before or who has limited experience with building, it cannot be stressed enough to be prepared. Too many jobs remain unfinished for years because the builder was not prepared. Well here are 7 questions to help prepare you to choose the right plans so you can start AND finish the project. And by the way, it’s better to review this list BEFORE you begin construction, but we understand if you are reading this half way through.
- Why do you even want the shed in the first place? You might think you know what the shed will be used for, but before long other family members will begin to make their claim and want to store sports equipment, garden tools, and other things in there. Try to determine ahead of time what will be stored and the shed and how much room you will need.
- How big do you need your shed to be? This is what makes the first step so crucial. You might think you can get away with a really small shed, but think about over time how much stuff you will accumulate. The last thing you want to do is have to build another shed or build an addition simply because you did not know how much room you would need.
- Where will the shed be placed on your property? You want to find some place on your property that is both accessible and aesthetically pleasing. You don”t want to have to move that beast down the road so find a great place now, thinking about future events that may affect the location.
- Do you need to have the shed waterproofed, insulated, or completely open? This may depend on where you live. If you get a lot of colder weather and snow you may want to protect the equipment in the shed with some insulation and weather proofing.
- Will you need a permit for your shed building? This will vary from place to place, so make sure you check with your local by-laws and talk to a contractor or someone who knows if you need a permit or not. It may depend on the size of your building but making sure is always better than getting a fine down the road. We don’t give legal advice so you need to check on this yourself.
- How much money do you want to spend? Yeah, this is a big one. You can’t set up a budget when you don’t know the cost of materials and what size of a building you want. Knowing the cost ahead of time will help keep you from getting a heart attack when you see the costs adding up, but keep in mind that this will be much cheaper than buying an already made shed.
- Where do you get storage shed building plans? You can check out a local hardware store or a home improvement store for some building plans, but the best and most comprehensive plans I have found are at www.MyShedPlan.com. You can find over 12,000 shed plans and woodworking plans available and will find the illustrations and blueprints very helpful.
